The Proud Rooster

The Young Rooster has a beautiful coat of feathers. Its tail feathers are shiny and colorful, from a distance it looks like a peacock’s tail. The crow of the Young Rooster is both loud and resonant.

The Young Rooster was very proud of his feathers and crowing, so he became arrogant and looked down on the Foolish Rooster and the Yellow Cat. All day long he puffed out his chest and walked around the yard, not even looking at his friends.

One day, the Young Rooster bragged to the Foolish Chicken and the Yellow Cat that it was his crowing that woke the Sun up.

The Foolish Rooster and the Yellow Cat argued back, saying, “Hey, my friend, what are you talking about? That’s not true. It’s because the sun woke up that you crowed.” The Young Rooster didn’t even listen to the Yellow Cat and went out to play in the yard.

The next morning, after loudly crowing “Cock-a-doodle-doo…”, the young Rooster looked around.

Sure enough, at the sound of its voice, people began to wake up. The lark sang merrily on the bamboo tops. The buffalo rubbed its long horns against the barn pole. The cat stretched and washed its face with its paws.

Far away, behind the bamboo grove, the Sun also peeked out from behind the red-brown cloud curtain, his face rosy and round. Young Rooster felt as if the Sun was smiling at him.

The young Rooster happily ran to the Foolish Chicken and the Yellow Cat, he shouted: “Look what my crowing has done, I have called the Sun and woke everyone up”.

The Foolish Chicken and the Yellow Cat turned away, not bothering to answer the Young Rooster. The Young Rooster was very angry, his face turned red, he ran after and shouted at the Foolish Chicken and the Cat. The Foolish Chicken and the Cat just smiled at each other and acted as if the Foolish Chicken did not exist.

But the young rooster kept following and causing trouble. The Foolish Rooster told the Young Rooster, “Tomorrow, try not to crow. If the sun doesn’t wake up, I will believe what you say is true.” After saying that, the Foolish Rooster went off to play somewhere else.

All that night, Young Rooster tossed and turned, feeling resentful, wondering why no one believed him. He tossed and turned, feeling so frustrated that he couldn’t sleep all night, and it wasn’t until almost dawn that he finally fell asleep.

When he woke up, he saw that the chicken coop had been deserted for a long time. In the garden, Chicken To and Cat were walking around.

Above the bamboo grove, the Sun was shining brightly. Everything was going on as usual, although there was no crowing from the Young Rooster. The young Rooster was now ashamed of his previous words.
