Leg, Arm, Ear, Eye, Mouth

Miss Eye, Mr. Leg, Mr. Arm, Mr. Ear, and Mr. Mouth have always lived together very closely. One day, Miss Eye came to complain to Mr. Leg and Mr. Arm:

– Mr. Ear, you two and I work hard all year round, but Mr. Mouth does nothing but sit and eat. Let’s stop doing anything now and see if Mr. Mouth can survive.

Mr. Leg and Mr. Arm also said:

– Yes, we must go tell Mouth so he can take care of himself. We have worked hard enough. Now it is time for him to find his own food, let’s see if he can do it.

Miss Eye, Mr. Leg, Mr. Arm went to Mr. Mouth together. Passing by Mr. Ear’s house, they saw him sitting silently as if listening to something. All three of them ran in and said:

– Mr. Ear, will you come with us to Mr. Mouth’s house? We have come to tell him that from now on we will not work for him anymore. We, like you, have worked hard for a long time and now we need to rest.

Mr. Ear nodded vigorously:

– Yes, yes… I will go with you!

The four eagerly went to Mr. Mouth’s house. When they arrived, they did not greet him at all. Mr. Leg and Mr. Arm said to him directly:

– We came here today not to visit or chat with you, but to tell you: from now on we will no longer work to support you. For a long time, we have suffered and worked hard for you.

Old Mouth heard this and was very surprised. He said:

– If you have something to discuss, come inside. Why are you so angry?

Mr Ear, Aunt Eye, Uncle Leg, Uncle Arm all shook their heads and said:

– No, there is no need to discuss anything further. From now on, you have to take care of yourself and make a living. As for us, we will not do anything. We have never known anything sweet or delicious, so why work so hard!

Then they all went home.

From that day on, Mr Ear, Miss Eye, Uncle Leg, and Mr Hand did nothing. One day, two days, then three days, everyone felt tired and exhausted. Uncle Leg and Uncle Hand no longer wanted to get up to run and play like before; Aunt Eye was always lethargic day and night, her eyelids felt heavy as if she was sleepy but could not sleep. Uncle Ear, who used to listen to singing and could hear everything clearly, now suddenly felt like there was always a buzzing noise inside, as if there was a rice mill. Everyone was so tired and exhausted that on the seventh day, they could not stand it anymore, so they gathered to discuss.

Mr Ear said to Miss Eye, Mr. Leg, Mr. Arm:

– We are wrong, children. If we do not make Mr. Mouth eat, we will all be paralyzed. Mr. Mouth does not go to work, but he has a job to chew. That is also work, not just sitting around doing nothing. We used to live together so closely, but now we suddenly cause trouble. Only when Mr. Mouth eats will we be healthy. We should go and tell him, will you go? Miss Eye, Mr. Leg, Mr. Arm tried to get up and follow Mr. Ear to Mr. Mouth’s house.

When they arrived, they saw that Old Mouth’s lips were pale, his teeth were as dry as roasting, and he didn’t even bother to smile. Uncle Ear and Miss Eye helped Old Mouth up. Meanwhile, Mr Leg and Mr Hand went to look for food. Old Mouth finished eating and gradually regained consciousness. Uncle Ear, Miss Eye, Mr Leg, and MrHand suddenly felt less tired, and then felt as comfortable as before. From then on, Old Mouth, Mr Ear, Miss Eye, Mr Leg, Mr Uncle Hand lived together intimately, each doing their own thing, without anyone being jealous of anyone else.
