In life, we’re constantly faced with countless choices and challenges. Amidst these difficult crossroads lies an invisible power that can change a person’s destiny: perseverance. Perseverance isn’t just a temporary effort; it’s a persistent process, a habit cultivated every day, helping us turn our dreams into reality and overcome our own limitations.
Perseverance is a Habit
Small, daily acts of perseverance will become an indispensable part of your life. Perseverance starts with the simplest things: forming a good habit, striving to learn a new skill, or simply maintaining a relationship. These quiet acts of persistence, over time, become an essential part of life, a solid foundation for the soul. The spirit of perseverance and persistence is deeply ingrained in Vietnamese culture, as expressed through folk songs, proverbs, and the teachings of our ancestors. Vietnamese proverbs have profoundly captured this spirit: “Có chí thì nên” (Meaning: If you have a firm will, you will succeed), “Có công mài sắt có ngày nên kim” (Meaning: If you are persistent and patient, you will succeed no matter how difficult the task), and “Chớ thấy sóng cả mà ngã tay chèo” (Meaning: Don’t let big waves cause you to drop your oar). These are reminders of the importance of an enduring will and not backing down from difficulties.
Perseverance Brings Hope
It helps those who are lost find a glimmer of hope and helps those without a goal gradually find their direction. Perseverance is the guiding light for those who are lost. When faced with difficulties, instead of giving up, perseverance urges us to seek solutions and open new paths. The spirit of perseverance is also deeply ingrained in Vietnamese culture and history. Vietnamese people have a saying, “Non cao cũng có đường trèo, đường dù hiểm nghèo cũng có lối đi” (Meaning: Even the highest mountain has a path to climb, and even a dangerous road has a way through) or “Chớ thấy sóng cả mà ngã tay chèo” (Meaning: Don’t be discouraged and give up just because you see big waves or danger). This expresses the spirit of Vietnamese perseverance.
In Vietnam, we have shining examples of people who overcame hardship with perseverance. Teacher Nguyen Ngoc Ky, who was paralyzed in both arms from a young age, persistently practiced writing with his feet to become an excellent teacher, inspiring millions. Or the story of the poet Cao Ba Quat, who practiced his handwriting day and night to the point where “he had to be pulled by his hair to wake up” to improve his script, eventually becoming a famous scholar with the talent of “literature like Sieu, Quat.” These stories aren’t just legends; they are living proof of the power of the human will.
Perseverance is the Key to Success
Success only comes to those who are persistent and don’t give up. Life is a miraculous journey. What we achieve today is the result of past efforts, and what we will have in the future depends on our current perseverance. Every small step forward, every simple growth, is a brick building a solid wall. Perseverance accumulates bit by bit, turning into an endless asset and limitless strength, helping us live a more fulfilling and meaningful life. As Jack Ma said, “I don’t know what success is, I just know—when you give up, you have failed.” Clearly, without perseverance, all efforts become meaningless. The wise person always wins in the final steps, while the loser often collapses due to self-created reasons.
Perseverance Helps Overcome Challenges
Those who persevere through the burden will eventually overcome the obstacle, while those who give up will be forever stuck. The challenges that seem to destroy our will are actually opportunities for us to stand on a new level. Each time we face and overcome a hardship, we accumulate more experience and strength, like a jewel being polished—the more it’s tested, the more it shines. Life is a miraculous journey. What we achieve today is the result of past efforts, and what we will have in the future depends on our current perseverance. It’s like the saying, “Thua keo này bày keo khác” (Meaning: Losing one round doesn’t mean losing forever; you must get back up and try again).
Perseverance is Accumulation
Each challenge, each time we try and don’t give up, makes us stronger and helps us reach a new level in life. Unrelenting perseverance will build our abilities and become a priceless asset. Every small step forward, every simple growth, is a brick building a solid wall. Perseverance accumulates little by little, turning into an endless asset and limitless strength, helping us live a more fulfilling and meaningful life. Start today with the smallest goals. Persevere to complete every task, and persevere to walk the entire path you have chosen. Because life will reward those who are diligent and constantly strive, and perseverance itself will fill your life with hope and sunshine.
